EN 381: PROTECTION AGAINST HAND-HELD CHAINSAWS
The European standard EN 381 complies with protective clothing for chainsaw users.This norm is divided into different parts (or designs).
Each part treats a specific part of the body:
- EN 381-5 : Requirements for leg protectors
- EN 381-7 : Requirements for chainsaw protective gloves
- EN 381-9 : Requirements for chainsaw protective gaiters
- EN 381-11: Requirements for upper part of the body
The norm also prescribes 4 classes that correspond to the chain speed with which the tests have been done:
- Class 0 : 16 m/s
- Class 1 : 20 m/s
- Class 2 : 24 m/s
- Class 3 : 28 m/s
381-5: LEG PROTECTORS
PROTECTION AGAINST HAND-HELD CHAINSAWS
- This part specifies the demands for leg protection wear and defines the types (or designs) of leg protection wear, according to the kind of protection:
TYPE A
- The chainsaw protective clothing of type A is designed for professional users whilst working on the ground.
- Type A (or front protection) covers each leg partly (180°)
TYPE C
- The chainsaw protective clothing of type C is designed for occasional users and also for professionals when working in off ground situations.
- Type C covers each leg all around (360°) protection.
EN ISO 17249: CHAINSAW PROTECTIVE BOOTS
PROTECTION AGAINST HAND-HELD CHAINSAWS
A chainsaw boot complying to EN ISO 17249 will automatically comply to EN ISO 20345 for safety footwear.
